The Domain Name
How did I come up with the domain name MirthScout.net? In early 2001 I decided I wanted my own domain name. I had been using the login name MirthScout on various sites for many years. It just seemed logical to use the same name.
The Login Name
Well, I just hate using a login name that has a number appended to it because someone else is already using it. That makes it pretty difficult to pick a name given how many people there are on the net. I wanted my own unique name! So I pulled out a dictionary and started flipping semi randomly through the pages seeing what I could do with the words I saw. I found quite a few that apealed to me but were already taken on one or more of the online services I use. While trying to find loose synonyms for words like "fun" and "happy" I stumbled across "mirth". Since I'd already been toying with the word "scout", "MirthScout" just suddenly clicked. Those dictionary searches usually lasted for 30 to 60 minutes and went on for about a month before I finally created this name. I guess I was pretty determined (or maybe a little crazy). I have no idea how many years before March 2001 that was.
